Regional Energy Resource Council

Comprising members of regional government, customers, academia and advocacy groups, the Regional Energy Resource Council (RERC) provides guidance on how TVA manages its energy resources against competing objectives and values.

TVA operates the nation's largest public power system and provides reliable and affordable electricity for business customers and local power distributors serving nearly 10 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. A key challenge faced by TVA is managing energy resource priorities among competing objectives and values. These include building and operating diversely fueled power plants and balancing those needs with reducing energy consumption, using energy efficiency measures, and tackling transmission, integration and growth issues.

The Council was first convened in fall of 2013, and its charter was renewed for a sixth term in August 2023. TVA established the Regional Energy Resource Council to obtain advice from external stakeholders who are interested in the development and management of energy resources in the Tennessee Valley. Gaining routine input from stakeholder helps TVA manage its priorities in a responsible way to meet the diverse needs of people across the Valley and thereby sustain the vitality of the region.

The meetings of the Council, which was established under the guidelines of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, are open to the public, and the proceedings are published on this website.
