Widows Creek Fossil Plant Emissions

What TVA is doing about emissions at Widows Creek

TVA has taken a number of steps to make the efficient generation of power at Widows Creek as clean as possible:

  • Unit 7 is equipped with an electrostatic precipitator to remove particulates, a wet limestone scrubber to remove additional particulates and sulfur dioxide emissions, and low-NOx burners and SCR to reduce nitrogen oxides emissions by about 90 percent.
  • Unit 7 will be retired by Sept. 30, 2015.
  • Unit 8 was idled on Oct. 1, 2014, and will be retired.
  • In support of environmental agreements the plant’s six other units were idled on Oct. 1, 2011 and have been retired.
