Boone Dam Reopening

TVA celebrated the completion of the Boone Dam project with government officials, customers, long-term partners and the media on May 25, 2022. Boone Dam was officially turned back to the public during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Members of the public were welcomed to the site and had the opportunity to meet TVA subject matter experts and external partners at an afternoon educational opportunity following the VIP event.

In October 2014, a sinkhole was discovered at Boone Dam, followed by a muddy discharge at the base of the dam. Since those were indicators of internal erosion, TVA immediately stepped forward to protect the public downstream and its workers while providing a safe, high quality dam repair. The reopening celebration marked the official end to the seven-year project.
