Five Western North Carolina Solar Farms

On March 28 and April 10, 2014, TVA issued final environmental assessments (EAs) and findings of no significant impact (FONSIs) for its proposed purchase of electricity from five solar farms in western North Carolina.  The five solar farms would be constructed and operated by entities associated with Inman Solar.  TVA’s power purchases would be through its Renewable Standard Offer program, where TVA purchases qualifying renewable energy at market rates.

The first EA and FONSI describe the anticipated environmental impacts of the Hampton Solar Farm in Cherokee County, the Sweetwater Cove Solar Farm project in Clay County, and the 1 MW Solar Farm project in Avery County.  The second EA and FONSI describe the anticipated environmental impacts of the Carter Cove Solar Farm and the Lance Cove Solar Farm, both located in Clay County.  Each of the solar farms would generate 1 megawatt of electricity using photovoltaic panels and connect to the TVA power system through interconnections with local power companies.  The solar farms would each occupy between four and six acres.
