Jackson County, Alabama
On March 5, 2015, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) completed a final environmental assessment and issued a finding of no significant impact for the proposed disposal of 360 acres of property near Widows Creek Fossil Plant in Jackson County, Alabama for potential light industrial purposes. In 2010, TVA purchased approximately 600 acres immediately adjoining its plant. The property was purchased to preserve the ability to convert wet coal combustion residuals at its Widows Creek Fossil Plant to dry handling systems in the future. Since buying the land, TVA’s potential need for this amount of property has changed due to the retirement and/or pending retirement of seven of the eight generating units at its Widows Creek Fossil Plant. TVA believes that it longer needs to preserve all of this property for its use; therefore, TVA is proposing to make 360 acres available for light industrial uses.
