High school seniors from Martin Luther King Jr. College Preparatory High School recently visited the Allen Combined Cycle Plant to learn about the function of the plant and job opportunities that exist within TVA.

“I plan to focus on engineering after this tour. I had no idea there were this many opportunities available!” said MLK Prep senior Martorey Barnes.

Plant Manager Michael Cashon and other leadership spoke with the students about how TVA is continually updating the way we make electricity – from our past focus on coal-burning plants to today’s cleaner and more efficient processes with natural gas.

“TVA is heavily invested in our local communities,” Cashon said. “ The staff at the Allen Integrated site enjoyed hosting these wonderful young men and women from Martin Luther King Jr. Preparatory High School and we look forward to more of the same.”

The plant, which began operation in 2018, has two of the world’s largest and most efficient turbines running on natural gas, with a generating capacity of about 330 megawatts each. The site also has a combustion stream turbine with approximately 420 megawatts of capacity, enabling the plant to produce over 1,100 megawatts – enough to power more than half a million homes.
