Our Continuing Commitment on the Allen Site

Statement (August 17, 2021) – after Memphis City Council voted unanimously in support of resolution to cease moving coal ash to MLGW service territory.

We are going to continue to do what we said we’re going to do, which is to honor our commitment to listen and engage with the people of Memphis, community partners, and city leaders.

We have a shared responsibility with the City of Memphis, Shelby County, MLGW, and the Port Commission to safely remove the coal ash and restore the site for the benefit of the community.

In 2016, TVA entered into an agreement in good faith with the City, the County, MLGW, and the Port Commission to safely manage the coal ash stored at the retired Allen Fossil Plant. That partnership put in place a process for moving forward with the Allen Restoration Project. Our commitment is to listen, engage, and educate all stakeholders on this process.
