TVA Welcomes Valero and MLGW to Allen Gas Plant in Memphis

October 8, 2019 -- The world’s largest independent petroleum refiner and the nation’s largest three-service utility recently stopped by TVA’s Allen Combined Cycle Natural Gas Plant in Memphis for a tour and informal networking event. Plant Manager Dave Skelskey welcomed the team of engineers from Valero and Memphis Light, Gas and Water, starting the day with an overview of plant operations and technology.

“We are always glad to open our doors to our partner in electrification and one of the city’s largest energy users,” Skelskey said. “We value this three-way partnership, which works to benefit the people of Memphis, Shelby County and surrounding areas.”

Home of TVA’s largest-owned solar facility with 3,000 panels, Allen Combined Cycle is one of the most efficient gas plants in the world and offers reliable power to MLGW which, in turn, sells it to businesses like Valero and residential customers.

MLGW Systems Operations Manager Reggie Bowlin called the Allen Gas Plant and overall partnership “benefits” to the city. “We took a pretty thorough tour of TVA’s plant, and it’s very impressive. It’s good to see this in Memphis,” Bowlin commented. “Our partnership with TVA is long-standing, and we value the relationship. TVA does a lot for us, and we appreciate it.”
