TVA Accepts Bids for New Utility-Scale Solar and Battery Projects

Jun 7, 2021

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Authority is building the energy system of the future, and is calling on the nation’s top utility-scale solar and battery storage developers to submit proposals for projects that can be completed by the end of 2024.

Proposals must be submitted by July 20, 2021. Developers can review TVA’s request for proposal and submit bids at www.tva.com/Information/Doing-Business-with-TVA. TVA will announce the selected projects this winter.

TVA’s seven-state service territory is the nation’s premier destination for businesses who want to achieve their sustainability goals. The RFP proposals support TVA’s nationally-recognized Green Invest program, which has secured solar farms to meet the renewable energy goals of auto manufacturers, data centers, local power companies, cities, and universities.

Since 2018, Green Invest has attracted nearly $2.7 billion in solar investment and procured about 2,100 megawatts of solar – maintaining TVA’s green energy leadership as the energy provider with the greatest amount of renewable generation in the Southeast.

As outlined in TVA’s Strategic Intent and Guiding Principles and recent  Sustainability Report, the utility has a path to an 80% carbon reduction by 2035 with up to 10,000 megawatts of solar capacity online, while moving toward its aspirational goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
