Angela Simpson
Business Support Representative, Allen Combined Cycle Plant | Memphis, Tenn.
I’m a mother. I’m a multimedia volunteer at my church. I’m an energy conservationist helping to contribute to more than 2,000 organizations. And I’m proud to call the Tennessee Valley home. I’m Angela Simpson, and I’m an administrative assistant at TVA.
A Mother Finds Purpose in Serving Those Around Her
Angela Simpson is the kind of person that you wish you had as your co-worker.
“I always try to be in the mode of ‘how may I help you,’” she says from her desk at TVA’s Allen Fossil Plant near Memphis, where she is the Administrative Assistant. “I try to treat people the way that I want to be treated.”
Whether it’s getting an employee access to a different part of the plant, making travel arrangements for plant management, answering a call from a vendor or simply greeting visitors, Simpson’s mission is always the same: to serve others in the best way that she can.
And serving looks very different to Angela depending on the day.
“I never know who is going to call or show up at my desk. Everyone needs something different, and there’s always a surprise,” she says with a modest smile. “Sometimes, that surprise can turn my day upside-down.”
In addition to being a full-time mom and fulfilling her numerous administrative duties at TVA, Angela also finds time to live out her passion for serving the community. For the past two years, she’s volunteered for the TVA-supported Living Lands & Waters, which aids in the protection, preservation and restoration of the Mississippi and other U.S. rivers.
“I’m pretty much a recruiter,” she says of her role with the environmental non-profit. “I’m helping to recruit employees to volunteer for this great opportunity to clean up our river and make the area more beautiful.”
Her various responsibilities require a lot of juggling, and she admits that time management can be a challenge, but at the end of the day, Angela believes she’s lucky to be able to serve her hardworking co-workers at Allen.
“I feel like I’m making a difference, and I get a lot of satisfaction from that,” she says. “It’s a blessing to be here.”
